We’ve teamed up with The Homebrewer to offer some hands-on programming. Whether your interests lie in the complexities of the science behind the suds, or the simple joy of combining food with your favorite beverage, our stage offers a variety of educational and entertaining offerings.

The stage schedule varies for each session.

Hops & Succulent Crown DIY presented by Women’s Craft Collective and Rain to Roots Custom make your own hops & Succulent Crown using fresh hops donated by San Diego Golden Hop farm Fallbrook California and locally sourced succulents while sipping craft beer brewed by Culture Brewing Co. Make and take your creation with you to wear during the festival!

DIY Dry-hopping experiments presented by The Homebrewer This hands on demo teaches you how to add hops to your beers at home and discover how are hops used to create different beer styles.

Cooking with Beer with Oggi’s Sports | Brewhouse | Pizza If you’re a beer lover, chances are your favorite way to serve beer is straight up in a big, frosty pint glass. But don’t confine your preferred brew to the mug – many dishes, even sweets, can be flavored with beer. Chef Jason Tsiames of Oggi’s Sports | Brewhouse | Pizza, will be utilizing the different styles of Oggi’s Award Winning Brews, while sharing his culinary expertise and techniques about the various types of beer and the dishes they best compliment, both as an ingredient and to drink them with.

Cooking with Beer and Malt presented by The Homebrewer and Nomad Donuts There would be no such thing as beer if it weren’t for malt. But what is malt anyway? Join The Homebrewer for a talk on the origins and use of malt in beer making and how you can use beer to create extraordinary desserts at home. Nomad Donuts will feature a beer made treat that we will pair the beer with and use as your own dessert prototype.

AleSmith Barrel Aged Pairings presented by Anthony Chen Interested in the art of barrel-aging and blending beers? Anthony Chen, Lead Brewer/Manager at AleSmith and a BJCP National level beer judge, will discuss the story behind the newly opened barrel-aged beer speakeasy Anvil & Stave Room and provide interactive barrel-aged beer blending basics behind this in-depth demo. Come learn some tips from one of the best!

Beer with Breakfast presented by Belching Beaver Executive Chef Ramiro Guerra Join the Belching Beaver’s Vista Tavern Executive Chef in this tasty and fun presentation that will feature this mouthwatering combo- a Grapefruit Blintz with Carrot Top Cream Cheese Buttercream Topping paired with their Dammed Double IPA.

Master Pairings presented by Dr. Bill Sysak and So Rich! Chocolates Pairings with Dr. Bill Treat your taste buds in this master pairing with Bill Sysak, one of San Diego’s leading beer educators and enthusiasts, and Johna Nilson, owner of So Rich Chocolates.

2017 SDIBF Awards Ceremony presented by Taphandles The San Diego International Beer Competition Awards Ceremony is the ultimate highlight of the festival. Every brewery at the festival is there because they participated in the San Diego International Beer Competition earlier this Spring. The awards ceremony is the main event where the Best of Show is announced and top winning breweries are awarded.

Pickles and Beer Pairing presented by Austin Durant Fermenters Club How to ferment at home. Using simple age-old techniques, you can make naturally fermented pickles with Austin’s easy step-by-step approach. He will showcase some of the many variations available to the home fermenationist and pair them with our favorite fermented beverage — beer!

SD Cider Club Cheese and Craft Cider Pairing presented by Brian Trout / Brothers Provisions Join local Cider Educator and Cheesemaker Brian Trout in an exploration of craft cider. Brian will talk about how to pair cheese with the burgeoning craft ciders both local and abroad. He’ll share tips on pairing cheese craft cider America’s original boozy beverage!

Donut Worry, Beer Happy presented by Garage Brewing Co and The Donut Bar What happens when delicious, artisanal donuts are paired with quality, craft beer? Pure bliss! Satisfy your sweet tooth while enjoying a refreshing brew. Garage Brewing Co. will be matching up a variety of their flavorful, beer styles with Donut Bar’s decadent, sweet creations for a pairing sure to make your taste buds happy. Do-nut miss it!

What’s a Cicerone™? presented by The Homebrewer Join Certified Cicerone™ and Brewer Jacob Bauch in an explanation of this new certification that interest’s beer aficionados and industry professionals alike. He’ll have samples of brewing ingredients and beers spiked with common off-flavors to share why this type of certification can be so valuable in today’s craft beer market.

New Generation of Craft Beer and Sports Bar Cuisine presented by Millers Field The days of over-fried, fattening sports bar food is over! Chef Silvano Renteria and GM Jon Wantz from Miller’s Field in Pacific Beach will explain how they use craft beer to bring an updated cuisine to the beach here in San Diego.
