Winning a jaw-dropping 40 medals over the past 12 years in the San Diego International Beer Competition, they have grown into one of the biggest and best brewers in the whole dang U. S. of A.
Karl Strauss Brewing Company
It can be said that Karl Strauss built the foundation for San Diego’s craft beer scene. College buddies Chris Cramer and Matt Rattner opened the doors to their brewery back in 1989. Amber Lager put them on the map, but their legacy of quality brewing has earned them 22 medals at SDIBF, most recently for their IPAs.
Mike Hess Brewing
As a home brewer for 15 years, Mike Hess turned his passion into a profession. The first brewery in San Diego to purchase a canning line, Hess developed the “Open Mike” can — rather than a standard pop top, the entire lid is removable, which means more aroma and therefore, more taste!
